The total cost of the entire project is $32,362,116.

What is the total scope of the U.S. 41 Nokomis Project?

The project provides for the widening from four to six lanes of a 3.3-mile stretch of U.S. 41 from a point south of Bird Bay Drive to north of State Road 681 (Venice Connector). In addition to the highway widening, the project includes the complete rebuilding of bridges crossing over Shakett Creek and Dona Bay, improvements to the Roberts Bay Bridge, construction of an eight foot wide sidewalk along the entire corridor, construction of three retention ponds, improved signalization at six intersections, aesthetic improvements and drainage enhancements.

What are the benefits of this project?

When complete, this project will significantly increase capacity and therefore reduce congestion along this heavily traveled segment of U.S. 41. It also will enhance safety for motorists and pedestrians alike, vastly improve access to local businesses and other establishments, upgrade the appearance of the entire corridor and improve drainage.

Is the project currently on schedule?

Unfortunately, due to utility and manpower problems in the very early stages, the project has fallen behind schedule. However, the Florida Department of Transportation is firmly committed to working closely with the contractor and its other partners to bring the project to a successful conclusion.

What is the target completion date?

Barring any additional unforeseen delays, including weather related incidents, the U.S. 41 Nokomis project is scheduled for completion by December 31, 2007.
